NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Greetings,
Welcome 2018! It always amazes me how much we accomplish in the first four months of school. I couldn’t be more proud of the students and staff at SRS. The level of academic achievement and the character of this community are top notch. This is evidenced by the work hanging in the hallways, the publishing parties, the reading project demonstrations in the classrooms, concerts, physical activities, TEAM SRS events, and the support and kindness that the staff and children provide to each other every day.
This is the time of year when everyone makes resolutions for the New Year. As I reflected on my resolutions, I realized I had not been reading as much as I used to as technology takes over. I have set a goal to read one book a month. I know we all hope children share the same goal of reading books at home, but finding the time can pose a challenge. Keeping a stash of books in the car and around the house can help keep reading as an option throughout the day. If you need some new books for your home library, we have an abundance of free books for children to take home. Encouraging the book buddy reading model at home may also help children work reading time into their day. I know that I love to see siblings and friends reading to one another.
I wish all of you luck with your 2018 goals, whatever they may be, and I hope that this year brings us all a little closer to our best selves, and our best practices. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of our families, staff and community members who support the great work happening here at SRS. We are truly a special place. Lastly, I’d like to wish all of our SRS families and staff a very Happy New Year. May 2018 find you prosperous and healthy.
Fondly,
Kelley
