Important Dates
February 15 – 19:  Winter Recess

Greetings,

On Tuesday we reached the halfway mark for this school year, and the 100 Mile Club is going strong! Congratulations to all of our runners and walkers who have reached a milestone. We will continue to have running club outside as long as the weather is not too cold. Please make sure your walkers and runners are dressed for the weather; if they have grippers for boots or shoes, we highly recommend them. We are always happy to have parents help supervise children on the track and we can always use the extra eyes. When picking up your children from the 100 Mile Club, please remember to get out of the car and check in with an adult before taking your children home. For everyone’s safety, we will not allow students to climb over the fence or cross the parking lot without a parent.

The Western Massachusetts Food Bank SNAP Counselor, Rob, has offered to come out to SRS for a day or two to help families apply for SNAP benefits. We have found that when people call the SNAP hotline they are directed to Boston, and it can be difficult to negotiate their phone system and their website. Rob has kindly left us applications and a list of things you must provide for documentation. If you are interested in meeting with Rob, please call SRS to set up an appointment.

Fondly, Kelley

Notes from the Kitchen
The CEP No-Charge Breakfast and Lunch Program is under way and has been a huge success. We’d like to remind families that most mornings there are three choices for breakfast: students may receive a hot breakfast, or cereal and a smoothie, or a smoothie and a granola bar. All breakfast options may be taken to the classrooms if needed. If your child needs a snack in the morning, the smoothie and granola bar would be a great option.

When purchasing food for the School, we make conscientious decisions. To the best of our ability, we order food that does not contain GMOs or hydrogenated fats. We use whole grain products (with the exception of a few items, due to the inferior quality of the whole grain version).  We always use local eggs, and we use local produce when available.  We take great care to treat our food with respect as we create meals, by using minimally processed items, whether from Commodity or our food vendors.

Please stop in and join us for breakfast or lunch!

Thank you,

Barrett & Kara
