NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Greetings,

While the weather has kept us guessing lately, I’m happy to officially wish all of you a happy spring! I’m glad to see that the spring flowers blooming in front of Preschool survived the snow fall this week. I hope that all of you have been able to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

As you know, we recently sent home invitations to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences.  At SRS, we take a lot of pride in the growth and achievements our students make thorughout the year.  Parent-Teacher Conferences provide an important opportunity for teachers and parents to disucss what their students are working on, what areas they’ve made progress in, and what steps they must take to continue to progress. I encourage all parents to make time to visit with classroom teachers.  To make an appointment, return the slip at the bottom of the letter you received.  On the slip, you may either confirm the time your student’s teacher suggested, or request another time, if necessary. We ask that you make arrangements as soon as possible to allow us to accommodate as many families as possible.

We will hold an important meeting here at SRS this upcoming Monday, March 24 at 6:30 PM in the Café. Please come to learn more about options for PARCC testing.  Families may choose to opt their children in or out of taking PARCC. At the meeting, we will disuss the potential benefits of both decisions.  It is essential that you have all of the information so that you can make the best decision for your child.  Childcare will be provided.

During last week’s crazy hat or hair Spirit Day, we raised over $450.00 to send to the families who were affected by the Orange house fire. I’d like to thank everyone for their generosity. It is wonderful to be a part of such a caring community.

Fondly,

Kelley

Library Lines

Every year at the MCBA Books in Action Party there is a community service project based on the MCBA books. This year we collected clothing or money for the Malala Fund (I Am Malala). We raised $82.00 and collected 4 bags of clothes that evening! For more information, please visit www.malala.org or www.schoola.com/malala. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The MCBA Mashup list of books for next year will be available by the end of May. If there is a book you’d like to nominate for the list, please let me know as soon as possible. The books must be for Grades 4, 5 and 6, must have been published in the past 5 years, and must be available in paperback. Many students have suggested books this year; we hope to see them on the 2015-2016 MCBA Mashup list!

The Scholastic “Buy One, Get One Free” Book Fair will be held in the SRS Library from Tuesday, June 7 through Friday, June 10. Tentative hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. I will be looking for many volunteers to help with the Book Fair, so please mark your calendar.

The Six Flags tickets for the “Read to Succeed” are expected to arrive by mid-May.

Make time to read,

Betsy
