NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Greetings,

Thank you to the voters in the Towns of New Salem and Wendell for passing the 2016 – 2017 budget. We are very pleased to have the support of our community, and we are already looking forward to next year!

Over the summer, we plan to move forward with our plan to begin replacing the school’s 37-year-old carpets. This project will take place gradually over multiple summers, so that the school can air out properly before students return.

In response to some concerns that were raised about the carpeting, I would like to assure families that the carpet we plan to install was chosen because it is a safer, greener product made out of recycled, low-emitting materials. The proposed carpet is certified as a CRI Green Label Plus by the Indoor Air Quality Carpet Testing Program and is free of Living Building Challenge Red List chemicals. It is also a Gold Certified NSF Sustainable Carpet that is CDPH compliant, flame retardant, recyclable, and lifetime warrantied.

We have been researching options for the last three years, and feel that this product will meet the needs of the school and the needs of our students. Our goal is to create a safe, healthy environment for our community’s children to learn and grow.

As the school year comes to a close, I wish all of you a wonderful summer filled with fun and relaxation. Thank you all for a successful school year. Be safe and enjoy your vacation!

Fondly,

Kelley
