December 26 – January 2: Holiday Recess

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Greetings,

Throughout the School, the excitement of the Holidays and vacation are becoming more evident. I enjoy talking to students about their hopes and dreams for the coming year, their vacation plans. Here at SRS, we have been eagerly awaiting the Winter Concert this Friday, orchestrated by Mr. Cortina. In the Office, we have the pleasure of listening to our students’ beautiful voices through the wall of the music room on Mondays and Fridays! I’ve also had the opportunity to listen to some of the students practicing; it makes the heart melt to hear them sing. I hope all of you can join us for this joyous event.

I am very proud of our achievements and all that we have accomplished in four months, and of the kindness and teamwork I see throughout the school, demonstrated by our staff and our students alike.  We have an amazing community and we support one another. Reflecting on the upcoming New Year, I am filled with gratitude for all the people in our Swift River Community, and for their warmth and generosity of spirit.

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all of our families, staff and community members who are all a part of the great work happening at SRS. This is truly a special place. Lastly, I’d like to wish all of our SRS families and staff a peaceful holiday season with much good cheer, rest, and relaxation.

Fondly,

Kelley Sullivan

 Library Lines

The Scholastic Book Fair was held last week in the Library and was one of the most successful in recent years. We had a wonderful selection of books to choose from and we were able to earn many new books for the Library and for the classrooms. Many of you have inquired about the percentage of sales that the school earns. This depends on our total sales and whether we take our rewards in cash (25%) or books (50%).

Thank you to our volunteers (Joy Brenneman, Rechel Rogalski, Gosia Spooner, Ashley Beauchesne, Natalie Reynolds, and Beth Haggerty) for donating their time to help at the Book Fair. Volunteers are extremely important  for this event run smoothly. I’d also like to thank all of our wonderful Swift River families for their support of the Book Fair and the Library program!

A very special thank you to everyone who supported the “All For Books” program.  We raised $178.00, and used this money to purchase books for our school community. Scholastic also matches this amount by donating books to two non-profit organizations: Kids in Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. With the success of this program, we plan to offer it again next year.

Vacation week is a great time to spend some quiet time reading a book during all of the excitement of the season. Happy Holidays!

Make time to read,

Betsy
