NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Do I dare say, “Happy Spring?!” I truly hope we are on our way to a warm-up. Everyone here at Swift River has been enjoying time outside soaking up the sun during recess and 100 Mile Club. Congratulations to all our Swift River runners and walkers for meeting your mileage goals during this long winter!

The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS 2.0) testing period will begin next week. It will take six weeks to complete. This year, all students will take the test on computers. I’d like to remind families to make sure their students are getting plenty of rest, having healthy breakfasts, and arriving on time for school! Thank you to everyone at Swift River for making this testing period as seamless as possible and for remembering that testing represents just one tiny piece of our students’ academic profile.

Please join the School Committee on Thursday, April 4, at 7:00 PM in the cafe for the public forum for the FY20 budget.

We ask that fifth grade families take time to check in with Danika about Nature’s Classroom payments for next year’s trip. SRS needs to make the first deposit towards the trip, and we appreciate your timely payments!

Fondly,

Kelley

RABBIT RUN!

Run!  Walk!  Cheer! The Rabbit Run is coming on Saturday, May 18! The Rabbit Run is a fun and challenging 10K race or a pleasant 3 mile walk through the gorgeous trails near the Quabbin and the New Salem Common. And it counts towards the 100 Mile Club!

The Rabbit Run is an awesome race in many ways, especially because the race tee shirt is ALWAYS designed by Swift River students.

Any students or staff or community members who are interested in running, walking, or volunteering at the Rabbit Run should contact Carla Halpern at 978-490-6606. Remember, if you want to volunteer AND participate, your registration fee will be waived!  This is going to be SO MUCH FUN!

Yoga for Parents and Caregivers

Natalie Reynolds, RYT is offering special yoga classes to parents and caregivers! These traditional Hatha yoga classes are gentle to moderate in difficulty, and include some breathing techniques and meditation. The intention of the class is to strengthen and increase flexibility while feeling nurtured and restored.

Classes are running on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:15 PM in the Music Room at Swift River School. Bring a mat if you have one, but some extras will be available! Cost is a sliding scale from $8.00 – $12.00 per class.  20% of the proceeds will benefit the Grade 6 trip to Nature's Classroom. Please contact Natalie with any questions by phone (call or text) at 978-544-3757 or by email at [email protected]. Namaste.
